Diamonds buying

  1. Quality: 4 Cs (cut, clarity, color & carat weight) determine the diamond quality.
  2. Cut: Many people confuse cut with the shape of the diamond. A precision-cut diamond with the correct proportions & angles is designed to give the max amounts of light, brilliance, fire & therefore ultimate beauty. Diamonds are cut into a no of shapes(7popular-Emerald, Heart, Oval, Brilliant, Marquise, Pear, Princess), depending on the nature of the rough stone & the position of the inclusions.
  3. Clarity: Diamonds are 100%carbon, formed in the earth by millions of years of heat & pressure. Nature’s imperfections are inclusions or flaws that appear in this process & affect the stone’s clarity. A diamond that is virtually free of these flaws is of the highest quality, for nothing interferes with the passage of light through it. Fewer number of flaws intensify its fire & beauty. To determine clarity, it is viewed under a 10-power magnification by a trained professional. Minute inclusions neither mar its beauty nor endanger its durability. IF-Internally Flawless, VVS1 or 2-Very Very Slightly Included, VS1 or 2-Very Slightly Included, SI-1 or 2 Slightly Included, 11, 12, 13-Imperfect.
  4. Color: Best color is no color b’cos then acts a prism, allowing light to pass effortlessly through & be transformed into rainbows of color. DEF-Colorless, GHIJ-Near colorless, KLM-Slightly tinted, NOPQR-very light yellow, STVWXYZ-light yellow to fancy yellow. Bottom of color scale should be I, not more than that.
  5. Carat weight: One Carat is divided into 100points. So diamond of 50points weighs .50 carat or 1/2carat. Size is the most obvious factor in determining the value of a diamond, but bigger is not necessarily better. Diamonds of equal size can have very unequal values depending on their quality.
